Manama – The Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) is training professionals to gain a deep and scientifically grounded understanding of working with natural pearls. According to a report from Bahrain’s state news agency BNA, DANAT has graduated a new class after an intensive eight-day course attended by participants from Bahrain and abroad.
Over the days, participants gained theoretical knowledge, practical training, and insights into sustainable practices, as well as content on the commercial and cultural aspects of the sector. The training covered how to evaluate, examine, and grade pearls, distinguish between natural and cultured pearls, identify pearl-producing mollusks, and understand factors that can influence the value of pearls and the dynamics of this market.
The course included a guided diving expedition, where participants gained hands-on experience in pearl hunting. The group also visited Bahrain’s Pearl Path, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. DANAT’s CEO, Noora Jamsheer, said the goal is to train future leaders in the field and that the program is aligned with the highest international standards.
