Brasília – Ahead of October 16, World Food Day, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched the campaign A #ZeroHunger World by 2030 is possible. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of actions designed to fight hunger and food waste and of the need for more sustainable agriculture.
After dropping for some time, hunger is on the rise around the world again. Presently, more than 820 million people are chronically malnourished, as per the FAO’s latest report on food security and nutrition. According to the FAO, conflicts, extreme weather events in connection with climate change, and a rapid increase in the rates of overweight and obese people are reversing the progress achieved in the struggle against hunger and malnutrition.
World Food Day events will take place in over 150 countries to spread awareness and foster global action regarding the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for everyone. The FAO also invites children and teenagers aged 5 to 19 to a Zero Hunger poster contest, by ing photos or scans of drawings to its website. Entries will be accepted until November 9.
