São Paulo – The governments of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia announced an oil discovery in the partitioned zone, located in the border region between the two countries. According to information from the Kuwait Ministry of Oil released on Monday (26) by news agency Kuna, the discovery took place at the North Wafra Wara-Burgan field and could produce more than 500 barrels per day.
The API gravity of this oil, a scale ranging from 0 to 10 that determines how light or heavy the product is and how much refining it will require, is between 26 and 27 degrees, classified as medium. The field where the discovery occurred is operated by a partnership between the two countries, with Saudi Arabian Chevron as the Saudi partner and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company as the Kuwaiti partner. These two companies form the partnership Wafra t Operations (WJO).
Kuna reports that the discovery is “highly significant” due to its impact on the two countries’ positions as global energy suppliers. This is the first discovery since the resumption of oil exploration operations in the region in 2020.
