São Paulo – Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is making available virtual tours of major tourist sites across the country. Available sites include museums, landmarks and archaeological sites from the Ancient Egypt era.
One 360º video features Beni Hassan – the modern name to an ancient location. Viewers can check out a mountainside necropolis comprising some 40 large graves dating from the 6th Dynasty, in the late Ancient Kingdom period, on to the 12th Dynasty, during the Height of the Middle Kingdom era.
The content is divided into themes such as ‘Ancient Egypt’ and ‘Coptic Egypt.’ The latter references Copts, i.e. followers of the Coptic Orthodox Church, a majority among Christian Egyptians. Images and footage are also available on ‘Islamic Egypt,’ ‘Nile Cruise,’ ‘Deserts and Oases,’ ‘Modern Egypt,’ etc. Pictured at the top of this page is a mosque.
The online tours are designed to help keep people entertained while self-isolating amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The campaign slogan is Experience Egypt from Home. Stay Home. Stay Safe. The Egyptian Ministry’s initiative enables anyone, anywhere in the world to explore the ancient Egyptian civilization.
