At a meeting held in Brasília with delegations from 40 African countries, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said Brazil has a debt to the continent that can be repaid through solidarity, technology transfer, and assistance for the development of local agriculture.

In his opening speech at the United Nations General Assembly, the Brazilian president pledged to achieve zero deforestation in the Amazon by 2030, called for an end to armed conflicts, and raised concerns about the growing issue of global hunger.
