São Paulo – Between today and tomorrow, Volkswagen Brazil will be shipping 90 units of their Saviero pick-ups to Abu Dhabi. And the company has signed a contract to ship a total of 300 vehicles, including Saveiros and other models of their Gol (hatchback) line. The remaining vehicles should be shipped within the next three months.
This is the first time the company ships to Abu Dhabi. According to a Volkswagen spokesperson, the company believes that the market in the Emirate may rise.
After this first shipping contract, the carmaker is going to analyse market acceptance and will then consider negotiating further shipping or the g of new accords. For the German factory, this is one more niche that is being opened in the Arab countries.
As informed by ANBA in March, Volkswagen executive manager Leonardo Soloaga hopes to export between 3,000 and 3,500 cars to the Middle East and North Africa this year, and over the next two years the number of units shipped to the Arabs may rise to between 5,000 and 5,500.
The company was fifth place in the ranking of largest Brazilian exporters in 2003, with revenues of US$ 1.485 billion on the foreign market. Last year the company exported to Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, and Saudi Arabia, and they also shipped another 10 Parati station wagons to other locations in the United Arab Emirates.
